This is my first solo album. It was born from my interest in mechanical sounds.
I have a very broad interest in music (blues, bluegrass, funk, jazz, electronic, ambient, ethnic, classical, and so on) which is reflected in this collection. Each track took as its point of departure selections of recordings I made in the laundry room in my home. Track 6, Herman Does Laundry, was based on a recording sent to me by my very good friend and former band mate Herman Kuiper. These recordings were sometimes used as is, but often they were manipulated with various plug-ins and DAW tools. I started recording and mixing Delicates Gentle Cycle in Logic Pro 9, but switched to Ableton Live 9 after that for the rest of the tunes. This DAW seemed to free me to work with less barriers. It has opened up my interest in new rhythmic structures and with guidance from 3dTorus, I have become interested in repetition in musical forms such as Dubstep. This explains the inclusion of the ninth track on this album.
